Dr. Laura Struik
Dr. Laura Struik’s research focuses on understanding youth health behaviors, especially as it relates to tobacco and nicotine product use. A central element of her research is youth engagement, whereby diverse groups of youth are involved in the research process, from conceptualization through to knowledge translation. She is currently focused on developing and testing innovative solutions for preventing e-cigarette uptake among youth, as well as supporting youth in quitting e-cigarettes.
Dr. Gina Martin
Dr. Gina Martin’s research focuses on understanding how the physical and social neighbourhoods where young people live, play, and learn influence their health. Much of her work focuses on understanding the effects of environments (social, built, and natural environments) on child and adolescent health and wellbeing. Dr. Martin has worked extensively on projects studying patterns of child and adolescent well-being and substance use. You can learn more about her work here: https://www.heyaresearch.ca/
Dr. Stephanie Coen
Dr. Stephanie Coen’s research explores how everyday environments shape health-related experiences and inequities. She is committed to using youth-driven participatory methodologies that are nimble and responsive to the priorities young people identify as mattering to them. Within this, her current work takes a by-youth-for-youth approach to researching teen vaping experiences and exposures, and mobilizing this evidence into creative interventions.
Dr. Kendra Nelson Ferguson
Dr. Kendra Nelson Ferguson is a Research Scientist and the scientific manager of the EPAV project. She has been the project coordinator on several large-scale research projects and utilizes her qualitative expertise to understand the experiences and perspectives of the individuals under study. She has worked to advance her methodological approaches in recognizing the importance of youth participation by meaningfully engaging young people in research aimed at health behaviour change.
