YOUR STORY, YOUR WAY: YOUTH SUPPORTING YOUTH FOR A CLEARER FUTURE

Our mission

Youth want to know more about vaping, but few initiatives resonate with them. The EPAV project aims to produce Canada’s first by-youth-for-youth vaping reduction and prevention project, providing reliable information informed by youth experiences, and delivering focused prevention messages through popular social media platforms.

Putting Youth in Charge to Educate & Inform

Teens Want to Talk About Vaping

“What I wanna know is like what are the true side effects like in the future. I don’t really know what will happen in like 50 years.”

“I feel like, if teens want to know more about vaping and the consequences, and like everything associated with it, um, they should get the information from other teens.”

“It would be interesting to have not only like a campaign but like kids who are part of the campaign who talk… So, like little workshops maybe or something that can educate kids more on how to educate their own peers.”

“I was just getting more and more addicted to it and I was becoming sad, gaining depression and I had to dig myself out of that hole with friends and family and having conversations about how I wasn’t feeling okay. I had to go outside of my comfort zone and talk about how I was weak when it came to addiction.”

Vaping Factors for Indigenous Youth participant – Age 18

“All I can say is that the methods that we have now for prevention of youth using vapes, drugs, this and that, are just not really working.”

“If I were to go to like a small get-together and seeing everyone else around me vaping and I’m not, there’s kind of this awkward pressure that I should be doing it.”

“To not vape is definitely going against like everything [and] everybody.”

“Everyone has them, by everyone [I mean] friends and people at school. There are just not very many rules about it - they are not very enforced. I think everyone does so that makes me more inclined to do it I guess.”
